In the mid-1980’s, Walt Disney World opened its new theme park section in Florida called EPCOT. Now, EPCOT was the initials that represented concept of an: Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. I was in my late twenties and was fascinated with the things that EPCOT was introducing to those that visited the park. Electronics, animatronics, hydroponics, etc. The imagination that these things inspired within my heart and mind to think about…learn about, was wonderful!
Placed in the middle of EPCOT, was a silver, round sphere called “Spaceship Earth”. It was a ride the would take park visitors, through a progression from the beginning of time through the present and end with probing questions about the near and distant future of humanity.
There were two main questions that were spoken at the very beginning of this ride to all who rode it…” Who are we?” …” Where did we come from?” Allow me to make these two questions more personal and let me bundle one more question with them. Who am I? Where did I come from? What is my purpose in this life?
I have thought about these three questions a great deal in my life. I also believe these questions are the very basic questions every human being on this planet must ask themselves sooner or later. It matters not, what language one speaks, where one lives, what family ancestry one descends from…they are the key questions for each of us.
There are many dedicated professionals in various areas of study and research, that strive to provide evidence of facts and historical light throughout the world that seek to answer these three questions. People who work in areas of archeology, anthropology, sociology, and other areas pertaining to humanity. I, myself, being a “Born Again Christian” and also called to be an ordained Deacon and Elder in the Global Methodist Church denomination, see things through the lens of theology, within the realm of Protestant, Trinitarian Christianity.
As a believer and follower of the teachings and directions given by Jesus Christ, as the Son of God the Father (the Messiah), and the empowerment and presence of the Holy Spirit of God the Father and Son, I believe that God (Trinity), made all things (Genesis 1:1-25), including, each person that has, currently, and will inhabit this earth. All of mankind, made in the image of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Male and female (Genesis 1:26-27).
As stated above in Genesis 1:27, I believe all of mankind are made in the image of God. Because of this action by God, I believe we are given characteristics and traits from God that reside within the depths of our very core and being (physically, emotionally, and spiritually). This inner core “truly” desires and yearns to seek fellowship and commune with our creator in a personal/spiritual relationship made possible through the sacrifice on the cross and triumphant resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ in and through, the Holy Spirit of God, and willed by the heavenly Father.
God also provide each of His created, the “free will” to select, believe and live out the path of life as they choose. The choice is simply…Holiness and Righteousness of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; or not. God provides all “Truth” and “Wisdom” for each through the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. God provides everything that is needed by His created on this earth, through His Word (Holy Scriptures), teachings, commandments, rules, instructions, for anyone to find the “fullness of life” as God desires us to live it, here on earth. God desires His children (believers/disciples) to be loving, joyful, good, kind, patient, faithful, gentle, at peace, and self-controlled in our living.
So many people throughout this world today, have searched for the answers to the three key questions above, but have been searching in and through places and things that are not of God nor within the presence of God. Jesus Christ made it clear in the gospel according to John for any and all who seek to live forever with Him eternally, that Jesus is the only way to salvation. John 14:6 – “I am the way and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Are you searching for the “True” answers to life and only running into sorrow and sadness?
Do you believe that the world, and the knowledge and intelligence of mankind within the world, contains all the answers that you seek to answer for yourself?
I am sure, you may have heard the phrase: “Every journey begins with a first step”… this cliche is true for all of us, and yet, it is unique to every one of us too!
If you have come to the decision to give your complete life over to the Lord, Jesus Christ, then please pray this prayer: "Lord God, I come to you in prayer, confessing that I a sinful and have not given my life completely over to you. I humbly ask for your Divine mercy and forgiveness and ask for your Holy Spirit to come into my heart, to dwell within me and guide and direct me. I thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice upon the cross and the blood that you shed for the washing away of all sins for those who come to you. I praise your Holy name, Lord Jesus, for your resurrection from the dead as foretold and your promise of returning again to gather all who are your blessed children and disciples. I ask this in Your name, Lord, Jesus Christ, in and through the power of Your Holy Spirit, Amen."
If you prayed this prayer, please drop me a message so that I may, first, praise God for your decision, and second, give you support and guidance as a new brother or sister in Christ Jesus!
If you have never seen or read a Bible, let me suggest one of the following translations: NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) or NIV (New International Version) or CEB (Common English Bible).
Allow me to also suggest the following Books of the Bible to be read in this order, before you tackle the entire Bible: Genesis (Chapters 1-23) and the first book of the Bible starting in what is called the Old Testament, Luke (One of the 4 Gospels or Histories of Jesus followed by the other three), Matthew , Mark, John, Acts, Romans, Ephesians, Hebrews. If you read these suggestions first, I believe God will bless you with a strong and firm foundation on which to build upon in His Holy Word and Scripture (The Bible).
God's Grace, Blessings, and Peace to you Always!
Rev. David L. Kennedy
